A wilderness guides take:

I work two weeks straight a shift out in the Idaho high desert year round, and take my gear selection incrediblyserious. Once winter hit I started trying my tried and true methods of staying warm but they were just keeping me alive and not truly warm. I searched all of the premium hunting brands for some time before I settled on the Colter Parka. This jacket is my go to ""can't be cold"" layer to serve as a Trump card for the elements when the weather turns nasty. It is a bit bulky, but I use an exterior meat hauler sling on my mystery ranch pack to pack it in and out when I'm in the field. The internal hand pockets in the chest are the best I've seen in a garment. I truly enjoy the sleeve cuff system they've engineered and how comfortable it is. The hood is well thought out and insulated just as much as the rest of the jacket which helps tame the wind. I pair this with all three base layer merino offerings from first lite and can comfortably sit out in 10° with driving wind and relentless precipitation and not feel the weather's harsh reality through this jacket. For anyone that spends serious time outdoors don't pass on this jacket. You're core temp will thank you.
