From September elk to January mallards, the Men's Kiln Boot Top is the do-it-all bottom of hunting clothing. The 3/4 length successor to our best-selling Allegheny, this piece is constructed of Midweight 250 Merino-X fabric for improved structure and durability. Perhaps the most versatile baselayer component within the First Lite system, the Kiln Boot Top simply cannot be beat as a baselayer bottom for any hunter or outdoor enthusiast. This piece can be your first or second layer and will keep you comfortable and odor-free from September through April. If you're looking for a true ace-of-spades in your layering system, look no further.

The Kiln Midweight 250 Merino-X fabric utilizes ultrafine, 18.5 micron merino wool in a high-loft, interlock knit to create styles that surpass expectations in the broadest range of temperature and weather conditions. Blending a small component of spandex into this knit, these lofted interlock pieces can withstand extended hunts in the field, regardless of the season.

The Kiln midweight 250 Merino-X is also available in a men's Quarter Zip Top, and Crew Top.

I've been wearing these kiln boot top bottoms since they first came out. I wear them for work and for hunting. Love them.

I've used this base layer for four days straight now, and I feel inclined to echo the primary complaint that other reviewers have surfaced. However, I'll start with the positive points. The construction is great, the wool is soft and odor-resistant, and the weight is perfect staying comfortable in the described temperature range. The only problem that I have found is the length. I wear 9" hunting boots and the bottom hem sits well above the "boot top", so do not expect this bottom to cover the top of your socks unless you wear OTC length. In hindsight, I should have purchased the full-length version of this bottom but, since the die is already cast, I pulled on the legs to stretch out some more length and pull up OTC socks over the pants to keep them in place. It's not ideal, but neither is life.

Good Idea, but not practical

I'll start by saying that these are very warm and do a great job for a lightweight base layer. The problem is the short cut legs. Once you start walking and, especially climbing, the cuff ends up around your knee. Not only is it uncomfortable, but it also makes the lower half of your leg much colder than it should be after you stop moving. The only way I've found to mitigate this is to tuck them into very high, tight wool socks. I would have been happier if I'd have purchased the full length version.

Great product

Nice compromise on weight, and these seem to stay over my knees better than the lighter weight ones. So many long johns are too tight around my lower legs so no problem here.
