I want to love these and the concept is solid but the execution leaves me wanting two separate pant styles still. Here's a few observations based on using almost every pant FL has has ever made since day 1 and hunting almost exclusively in their gear for nearly two decades:
1. I will always be a fan of the original Kanab wool pants and they were the best. I did appreciate the evolution of the ripstop wool over time and grew to eventually love the obsidian wool pants too so I wish they still made them because they were really perfect and I am a fan of the flexible waist for layering and general movements on the mountain. The ability to roll up the legs securely was also a great benefit.
2. The Obsidian Foundry Pant is a nice idea but they are frankly a lot more noisy and the fit was off from the guide and their other pant styles. I wear a 32 or 33 usually and had to size up to a 34 in these (they have a warning in the description now at least so perhaps I missed it before). The nylon panels are a great hybrid design concept but they seem thinner and louder than some of the other foundry pant styles.
3. I will forever mourn the loss of the FL Corrugate Guide pants (please consider brining them back!). They were the best hunting pants any company has ever made and I had them in every solid color and two camo patterns. These Obsidian Foundry pants attempt to bridge the gap between the beloved Obsidian wool pants and the Corrugate Guide pants but I think both pants are perfect for their intended purpose as separate styles and there's not necessarily a need to try and combine them into one super pant (they still have a lot of wool panels that will definitely snag and tear at some point). Plus now people will only buy one style instead of two so it seems like a business miss. I have multiple pairs of the Obsidian pants and wear them for different reasons from the Corrugate Guide pants - 70% of the time I am reaching of the CG's until it gets cold then I move into the more rugged Foundry line-up.
4. I understand the rationale for the suspender design but really hate them. I haver had any issues with the old suspender system and I packed out a lot of elk wearing them. I also often prefer a normal belt. This new design is certainly backpack friendly but feels strange and I won't wear them ever.
5. Bottom line: still a pretty good hunting pant, the fit is solid, and will keep them, hunt in them, and I do like that the seat is nylon w/DWR finish so I don't get soaked when briefly sitting on wet logs and grasses (not waterproof so can't sit there for too long).

This is my second pair and they are great pants. Knee pads would make them even better!
